Alima was founded by Rama Ly and her sister Aisha in 2005 at the University of Rhode Island. We have been going 13 years strong and we are grateful for all the opportunities that our presented to us. Alima also has sister chapters in Connecticut (UConn) and in Senegal. Though we are not together all the time, each of the Alima chapters work to educated communities about the importance of love through the arts of dance and music.

Our annual event is called Rhythm of the Soul, where URI Alima Dancers choreograph and showcase dances they have created and practiced from several months. We also perform at other colleges and events hosted by other organizations. We occasionally compete in local competitions. Alima also performs for personal events such as birthday parties, weddings, graduation cookouts etc.
