ALIMA, a word of arabic descent, means 'those who are skilled in music and dance'. Our colors, RED and BLACK, represent strength and power. Alima International Dance Association is a dance group at the University of Rhode Island that reaches to teach our members and the URI community about cultural differences through the art of dance and music. Our dances tell stories of people from Africa, the Caribbean, Asia, Europe, and other places around the world. Alima is also skilled in other dance genres including hip-hop, contemporary, lyrical, and modern dance styles because of the diversity of our members. Alima welcomes all diversity and the love for dance!
